The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) Justice Maqbool Baqir Monday directed Foreign Secretary to appoint a competent officer of MOFA in order to make early contact with United Arab Emirates officials in model Sofia Mirza’s children’s repatriation from the emirates, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
SC ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to pace up the process of repatriation of Sofia Mirza children.
Model Sofia pleaded the court to send the FIA team to UAE to bring back her children but foreign secretary apprised the court that repatriation was only possible keeping the UAE officials updated on this matter.
Foreign secretary also informed the court that Sofia Mirza's husband already got a verdict in his favour from the local court in UAE and Pakistan can challenge the verdict before April 22.
The Interior Minister Deputy Secretary said that the FIA team constitution summary will be forwarded to the Prime Ministry after the approval from the Interior Minister.
A divisional bench headed by Justice Maqbool Baqir heard the case and adjourned the case hearing till four weeks.
Earlier, the Supreme Court has summoned foreign secretary in the Sofia Mirza case and expressed displeasure over the attitude of foreign ministry.
The public prosecution told the court that complying with the court order, a joint report of the foreign ministry and the FIA had been submitted.
The foreign ministry’s director for the Middle East informed the court that the UAE authorities had requested for the repatriation of Sofia Mirza’s children.
“According to a pact between the two countries, the UAE authorities are bound to give an answer on our request within two months,” he added.
