Former cricketers have stressed the need for improving fielding and sweep shot skills.
Fall of wickets in the first six overs mounts pressures on a team and it becomes very difficult for the batting squad to come out of this, former skipper Salim Malik said
Peshawar Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by 4 wickets in today's match.
Had they posted a bigger target, Quetta Gladiators could have won, Salim Malik said. He also pointed out the poor fielding, saying “New players don't know how to field. This is the fault of the management that selects players only on the basis of batting or bowling. Good bowler and batsman should also be good at fielding,”
Moreover, Salim Malik said the most difficult shot in batting is the sweep shot and most players don't play it for fear of getting out. "This is the best to deal with spinners. The art of sweep shots be imparted to the players during practices."
Former cricketer Muhammad Yusuf too seconded Saleem Malik’s stance on fielding and sweep shot skills. He heaped praise on Wahab Riaz, Hasnain and Naseem Shah for bowling and according to him, Hasnain should be the Man of the Match for brilliant bowling.
Former pacer Muhammad Asif said a bowler should think of big. Bowing is important in all the matches of a tournament, he stressed.
He praised Naseem Shah and stressed Shah can become an extraordinary bowler with a little more practice and focus. He said Hasnain bowled excellently and Wahab’s comeback was too good. He laid emphasis on senior prayers’ guidance.
