Issuing a show-cause notice to Islamabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Irfan Nawaz Memon in contempt of court case, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday asked him to submit his reply by Monday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

On the order of the IHC judge Justice Babar Sattar, Memon appeared in the court.

Addressing the DC, Justice Sattar said, “Does he think that all this is a joke.”

“You issued 67 maintenance of public orders (MPO) for the detention of 970 days,” the judge remarked, adding, “This was stupidity on your part. Now, you will face the consequences.”

Memon replied that he had appeared on each and every hearing.

The court also turned down the deputy commissioner’s request to transfer his case to another bench. “Do you think that now we will form benches of your liking,” Justice Sattar remarked angrily.

Memon says cannot think of committing contempt of court

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon said on Wednesday that he could not even contemplate committing contempt of court.

Speaking to the media, he said that he showed up on the court order. “Even if I were abroad, I would have definitely appeared in the court.”

Memon said that everyone was bound to comply with the court orders.

He made it clear that these were the intelligence agencies on whose instructions, he had to issue MPOs. “This simply cannot happen that I receive a report that something bad is going to happen, and I don’t take its notice, and that incident eventually happens. “In that case, only I will be to blame,” he said.

The IHC had on Tuesday issued arrest warrants for Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon in a contempt case.

The high court had ordered IGPs of all four provinces and Islamabad to arrest the deputy commissioner and produce him before it in the case.

In his four-page written order, Justice Bar Sattar had also ordered the DG FIA to arrest him and produce him before the court if the DC is seen either at an airport, seaport or any border crossing

The court had also ordered the home secretary and DG Passports to put the name of the deputy commissioner on the ECL.

Justice Babar Sattar had indicted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) operations Jamil Zafar, Superintendent (SP) Farooq Buttar and Station House Officer (SHO) Nasir Manzoor while hearing the case.
