A new design of K4, a mega project for the provision of water to the people of Karachi has been prepared, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
Quoting sources, the channel reported that PC-I of the project was also ready while there were chances that it would be approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) soon.
Sources further disclosed that work on the project would get underway in March 2022 and it would take two years to lay down the pipelines.
It is after 15 long years that the Center has now taken it upon itself to complete the project, and for that it has assigned the task to WAPDA.
Earlier, both Center and the Sindh government had to equally bear its expenditures.
The delay was caused despite the fact that over 40-kilometer long open canal had already been dug.
The project, under which initially 650 gallons of water was to be supplied to the Karachites, will now supply 260 gallons only.
Under the new design, the project’s length has also been shortened from 127 kilometers to 108 kilometers.
Apart from that, a new company, Techno Consult, has been awarded the project’s contract as earlier Usmani & Co was working on it.
