Indian Information Ministry issued directions to block the first episode of the BBC Documentary ‘India: The Modi Question’ on YouTube.
The social media platform Twitter was asked to block more than 50 tweets containing links to the video on YouTube.
The directions were reportedly issued using emergency powers under the IT Rules, 2021.
Delhi authorities asked YouTube and Twitter to remove the content related to the documentary exposing Modi.
BBC said that the documentary was highlighting important issues from around the world. The Indian Government was offered the right to reply but they declined.
The documentary highlighted and raised questions about Modi's actions during the religious riots that claimed the lives of hundreds of Muslims.
Indian authorities called it a ‘propaganda piece’, ‘slander on authority and the credibility of the Supreme Court of India.
For the unversed, BBC recently released a documentary under the name “India: The Modi Question” and highlighted him being an extremist and a nationalist against the Muslims.
