The makers of Yash’s upcoming movie, Toxic, have been issued a show-cause notice in connection with the illegal felling of trees on forest land during the shoot.

According to Indian media, Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar B. Khandre confirmed that a notice had been issued to the filmmakers and that action would be taken after reviewing their responses.

The minister stated that officials had (falsely) claimed in an Interlocutory Application (IA) filed in the Supreme Court in 2020 that the forest land under the possession of Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) had lost its forest status. He alleged that they sought denotification approval without obtaining Cabinet permission.

“It has already been suggested to withdraw this IA. In the last Cabinet meeting, ex-post facto approval was given to withdraw the IA," the minister said, as quoted by PTI.

In October 2024, Khandre alleged that hundreds of trees had been illegally cut down on forest land within the HMT premises in Peenya, Bengaluru, during the filming of Toxic. Following his visit to the site, the minister instructed Forest Department officials to take immediate legal action against those involved in the tree-cutting.
