The Academic Council of Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) Saturday convened to celebrate the significant approval of four new sub-specialties in Obstetrics and Gynecology, granted by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and the university itself.
The newly approved sub-specialties include Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, Urogynecology, and Gynecological Oncology.
This milestone was warmly acknowledged by the Academic Council, which also approved the university programs for postgraduate training at FJMU/SGRH, Lahore.
The participants including VC Dr Khalid Masood congratulated Prof. Aisha Malik, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and her team, with special mention to Principal Prof. Noreen Akmal, for achieving this unprecedented feat.
The council expressed immense gratitude for Prof. Noreen Akmal's pivotal role in this accomplishment.
In addition to celebrating the new sub-specialties, a farewell ceremony was held in honor of Prof. Dr. Noreen Akmal, Principal of Fatima Jinnah Medical College and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, who retired after a distinguished career.
The ceremony was attended by numerous notable figures including Chairperson of the Department of Medicine and Director of the Quality Enhancement Cell, Prof. Bilquis Shabbir; Registrar Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nadeem; Deans Prof. Aisha Malik, Prof. Abdul Hameed, Prof. Aliya Zahid, Prof. Naveed Akbar Hotiana; and members of the Academic Council, Prof. Tasneem Amir, Prof. Maryam Malik, among other faculty members and heads of departments.
During the ceremony, Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal praised Prof. Noreen Akmal's remarkable contributions to the institution, acknowledging her tenure as exemplary.
Prof. Dr. Noreen Akmal expressed heartfelt gratitude to the faculty and distinguished guests for their unwavering support.
She reflected on her 43-year association with FJMU, expressing honor and pride in her service under Prof. Gondal's visionary leadership. The ceremony concluded with a birthday celebration for Prof. Akmal, where she was presented with gifts, a bouquet, and shields.
