Taxila police have arrested former federal minister and Senior PTI Vice-President (VP) Ghulam Sarwar Khan, his son former member of the National Assembly (MNA) Mansoor Hayat Khan and his nephew former member of the Punjab Assembly (MPA) Ammar Siddique Khan for their involvement in May 9 incidents, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The suspects, wanted to the Punjab Police in connection with four cases and Islamabad Police in connection with three cases, will be produced in a court in Taxila today.
They are also wanted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Sources in police informed that Ghulam Sarwar Khan, his son Mansoor Hayat Khan and nephew Ammar Siddiqui Khan were taken into custody from his friend’s house in Islamabad’s F-8 Sector.
Police and elite force personnel launched a joint raid to arrest the former aviation minister.
The PTI leader along with his son and nephew were wanted by the police in May 9 riots case and attack on Islamabad’s Judicial Complex, the police said and added cases against the accused are registered in Islamabad, Taxila and Rawalpindi.
It may be noted that the police had been conducting raids in Taxila for the past month to arrest Ghulam Sarwar Khan and had also sealed his offices and petrol pump in Taxila. The PTI leader was finally nabbed when he went to F8 for a meeting.
Violent clashes broke out across the country after PTI Chairman Imran Khan was arrested from the Islamabad High Court (IHC). A large number of PTI workers had staged countrywide protest demonstrations on May 9. The protesters had destroyed public and private properties, attacked military installations and ransacked relics of martyrs.
Following the incidents, the civil and military leadership had resolved to give exemplary punishment under the Army Act to all those involved in hooliganism, arson, ransacking of public and private properties, attacking military installations and desecration of martyrs’ monuments on May 9.
