Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz on Sunday condemned Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Chairman Fazlur Rehman’s statement regarding coronavirus and the vaccine.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Shibli said that Fazl made an irresponsible statement, which was not expected from him. “Please do not mislead people on coronavirus,” he asked Fazl.

On Saturday, Fazl questioned effectiveness of the vaccine after Prime Minister Imran Khan was declared coronavirus positive just two days after he got vaccinated against the viral infection. He said the prime minister caught the virus even after getting vaccinated, therefore, either vaccination was fraud or coronavirus was a mere hoax. He said the prime minister caught coronavirus soon after he was summoned by the ECP in the foreign funding case and this was beyond comprehension.

Shibli urged the opposition, specifically the PDM chairman, not to misguide people about coronavirus and the vaccination.

Commenting on PDM’s Sunday press briefing, he said the government was not worried about their plans, but they should do something positive that could serve the masses during the pandemic.

Shibli said the nation was praying for recovery of Prime Minister Imran Khan and this showed how much people loved and trusted him. He said the government was taking every step to control inflation and expand the targeted subsidy policy to facilitate the masses. He said the government would provide health cards across Punjab like it did in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Universal Healthcare Programme.
