The Balochistan government has told the Federal Shariat Court (FSC) that it has prepared a draft bill for the prohibition of child marriage in the province, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.
A bench of the Federal Shariat Court comprising of acting Chief Justice Dr Syed Muhammad Anwer, Justice Khadim Hussain and Justice M. Shaikh heard the suo-moto case regarding forced marriage of a 5 years old girl in Baluchistan, District Khuzdar.
The FSC was informed that a legislative bill titled, “The Balochistan Child Marriages Prohibition Act, 2021” had been prepared to prevent child marriage in the Province.
During the course of hearing, all federating units were represented by their respective Law officers.
The officer representing the Province of Balochistan contended the court that the draft law is prepared by the Provincial Government after consultation with the Provincial Commission on Status of Women and Provincial Social.
He observed that the aim of the bill is to prevent child marriage in the province and to protect their rights.
Advocate Balochistan government further pleaded the court that the bill has been prepared after taking the notes of the Federal Sharia Court and it will soon be presented in the Provincial Assembly for approval.
The hearing of the case was adjourned for an indefinite period.
