A local court in Islamabad on Tuesday granted two-day physical remand of Advocate Hassaan Niazi, nephew of former premier Imran Khan, who was arrested on Monday outside an anti-terrorism court, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Handcuffed Hassaan Niazi was produced before the Magistrate after which the FIR registered against him was read out.

The FIR states that the accused resisted police and threatened to kill an officer. Investigation officer demanded seven days of physical remand but the court approved the physical remand only for two days.

Advocate Ali Bokhari representing Hassaan Niazi opposed the physical remand, and told the Magistrate that his client had been granted pre-arrest bail by Judge Raja Jawad of Anti-Terrorism Court. He requested the court to order submitting CCTV footage to prove as to how Niazi was picked up from amongst the lawyers.

Advocate Ali Bokhari alleged that Hassaan Niazi was arrested well before the FIR could even be registered, and demanded of the court to order action against relevant Station House Officer (SHO). He also prayed the court to dismiss the case.

After hearing the arguments, Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah reserved the judgement for a short while, which was pronounced later. The Magistrate remanded Hassaan Niazi for two days.

Niazi’s lawyers, meanwhile, challenged the magistrate’s decision in the sessions court who also raised slogans and resisted efforts by police to take Hassaan Niazi out of the courtroom.
