Blasting the PTI over its economic policy failure and the current status of the economy in Pakistan, former finance minister Ishaq Dar on Thursday said the national GDP had been shrunk by $51 billion and the per capita income by $286 in the first two years of the current government.
The GDP stood at $315 billion by the time the PML-N had left the government in 2017-18, but the PTI reduced the same to $279 billion in the next financial year, he said in a tweet.
Dar added that the PTI government during its second year in the office had reduced the GDP further to $264 for the current financial year.
In another tweet, the PML-N leader discussed the per capita income, saying it was $1,652 in 2017-18 after the five-year tenure of his party.
But the per capita income was reduced to $1,455 in the first year of PTI government and expected to be $1,366 in the second, he mentioned.
“It means there has been $286 or Rs48,000 reduction in per capita income in two years. It is the lowest per capita income in seven years,” said Dar.
Earlier, he mocked Prime Minister Imran Khan and Adviser on Finance Abdul Hafeez Sheikh for sharing different over subscription number in connection with the sukuk bonds, saying the two should decide who was correct.
Previously, Dar had noted an alarming rise in food inflation in both urban and rural areas as well as depreciation of rupee.
He had quoted the government’s figures and said food inflation in urban areas had risen by 10.4 percent and by 12.9 percent in rural areas during the month of April.
