The probe authorities are zeroing in around the persons involved in the Rawalpindi Ring Road scam, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

According to sources, the establishment division is narrowing down the probe by collecting information about the main accused in the RRR scandal, ex-commissioner Capt ® Muhammad Mehmood. It has contacted the power division to obtain the record of his appointment in Nandipur Power Project as managing director and the record of his removal from the post.

The establishment division officers made inquiries regarding Capt ® Mehmood’s appointment and found that Capt ® Mehmood was appointed in former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif’s tenure as MD Nandipur Power Project.

He was removed from the Nandipur project in 2015 due to irregularities and an increase in the cost of the project.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on last Saturday ordered a full-fledged inquiry into the RRR project scam after which the Punjab government decided to send the case to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) or the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for a thorough investigation.

Punjab Chief Secretary Jawad Malik sent the “Fact-Finding Committee” report about embezzlements in the Ring Road Rawalpindi project to Punjab CM Usman Buzdar who ordered to implement all recommendations of it.

The report exposed two main bureaucrats—former commissioner RawalpindiCapt ®  Muhammad Mehmood and the land acquisition collector Waseem Ali Tabish—involved in the fraud of RS2.3 billion.

The report also suggested the Establishment Division should take disciplinary action against the commissioner as his brother had a link to the Makka City project and he misused the authority to give the financial advantage of RS2 billion to him.
