JUI-F chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on Wednesday said there was an unannounced martial law in the country, adding that the people’s vote had been stolen [in 2018 polls], reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The basic aim behind the formation of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) was to press for general elections and bring back democracy as the current government was unconstitutional, he told media persons in Nawabshah.
Talking about the arrest of PML-N leader Capt Safdar in Karachi, the JUI-f chief said the first information report (FIR) was registered after making the inspector general and additional inspector general of Sindh Police hostage. The civil officers were humiliated.
He opined that there was no need of any inquiry and action should be taken against all those who insulted the guest of Sindh by arresting the IG.
All the institutions and administration must work within their respective domains, Fazl, who is also chosen as the head of the recently-formed opposition alliance, stressed.
The situation worsens when institutions interfere in the domain of other institutions, he said and called for enhancing the powers of provinces.
The islands belong to Sindh and Balochistan, the JUI-F chief asserted in reference to the ordinance promulgated by the PTI government through President Arif Alvi, which has triggered a strong response not only by the PPP but also other members of PDM.
Defining the anti-government movement as a struggle for Pakistan’s existence in which all segments of life are taking part, he said it was aimed at the supremacy of the Constitution in the country.
Earlier on Tuesday, Fazl, during a visit to Hala, said they were not ready to accept the government’s rogue behaviour and would only seek the support of people to send the current regime packing.
He termed dissent as the soul of democracy and regretted the fact that the government was bent upon gagging liberties guaranteed by the Constitution.
