Bad news for the people of Karachi as the Karachi-Electric (K-Electric) has requested the National Electric Power Authority (NEPRA) for an increase in electricity prices by Rs3.45 per unit, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
If approved, the hike will place a burden of over Rs6 billion on the consumers.
NEPRA will hear the K-Electric’s petition on November 3.
The hike in electricity prices has almost become a routine now as only six days ago, on October 15, 2021, the federal cabinet had approved an increase by Rs1.68 per unit.
Perhaps oblivious to the fact that bulk of the population in Pakistan are suffering because of massive inflation, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government keeps dropping such bombshells on the people.
The cabinet’s decision had come at a time when the entire country was in the grip of worst inflation, with petrol prices standing at Rs127 per liter, and to make matters worse these are expected to go up further.
