Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has said that Federal Cabinet has approved the draft of the Constitutional Amendments which was approved by the Special Committee of parliament, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to media outside parliament, Law Minister thanked PPP and JUI for their support of the draft. He said that JUI overall submitted five recommendations, adding that JUI suggestions will be added in the draft on the floor of the house. Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar has said that the 26th constitutional amendment is going to be presented today and the appointment of the Chief Justice is a part of this package.
He said that the constitutional package is an important step regarding the prompt delivery of justice, the appointment of the Chief Justice of Pakistan is a part of this package and the term of the Chief Justice has been fixed for three years.
Azam Nazir said that the mechanism of constitutional benches in the provinces has been included in the amendment, it includes provisions regarding the judicial commission, non-Muslim members will also be made a part of the judicial commission, while the formation of the provincial judicial commission will remain the same. But what is new is performance evaluation. The Federal Law Minister said that JUI has given 5 suggestions in constitutional amendments, JUI's proposal related to interest was included in the constitutional amendment, Supreme Court also gave an observation regarding abolition of interest, interest from 1st January 2028. The system will collapse.
Tarar said government remained in touch with Maulana Fazl on constitutional amendments. He also lauded Bilawal for working hard to create consensus on the draft. He said the power regarding formation of apex court benches has been sent to judicial commission and four senior judges will be part of it.
Information Minister Atta Tara said that no haste was shown by the government over the proposed amendments and all political parties were shared the draft and consulted including PTI. He said government made detailed discussion on each and every section of the draft and not a single was ignored in this regard.
