The National Assembly will meet tomorrow to take up the issue of expelling the French ambassador in protest against the publication of blasphemous stuff in a French magazine and President Emmanuel Macron for defending the act that hurt the sentiments of millions of Muslims.
The opposition will raise its reservations while the government has decided to establish a special committee. A couple of days ago, National Assembly Speaker Asad Quasar adjourned the session for two days to remove the Opposition’s reservations.
Sources said the Opposition has been mulling submitting a note of reservations to the National Assembly Secretariat as, according to them, the government did not show its seriousness over such a sensitive matter. A PTI lawmaker presented a resolution and the speaker announced the formation of a special committee asking the government and the opposition to engage with each other to reach a consensus.
Amjid Ali Khan moved the resolution asking for a debate to be held on the issue of expelling the French ambassador from Pakistan and to tell all European countries, especially France, of the gravity of this matter. It said detailed discussions on the matter should be held with all Muslim countries and it should be taken up jointly on international forums.
