Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz are once again in a confrontation on the issue of the formation of Senate’s standing committees, reported 24News HD TV channel.
According to the details, government and opposition delegations met on Thursday to discuss the formation of the standing committees. Leader of the House Shahzad Waseem, Federal Minister Shibli Faraz and Federal Railways Minister Azam Khan Swati from the government while opposition leader Yousaf Raza Gilani and Senator Sherry Rehman from the opposition participated in the meeting.
PML-N refused to participate in the deliberations. Sources said that Yousaf Raza Gilani had called Musadik Malik of PML-N several times to participate in the meeting but the latter refused to do so. Sources said that PML-N had demanded chairmanship of 27 standing committees. Earlier, it was decided between the opposition leader in Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani and the leader of the house that the opposition would be given the chairmanship of 22 committees while the government would take 16 slots.
