At least seven people including women and children died Saturday after an uncontrolled oil tanker ran over the huts of nomads at Kahror Pakka Chowk in Dunyapur, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the rescue sources, two women, two girls and as many boys were among the deceased.
Four people including two women sustained critical injuries. The injured and the bodies of the deceased were shifted to the nearest hospital.
On information, the Lodhran district police officer (DPO) reached Dunyapur and inspected the site of the accident. The oil tanker also hit the side of the police vehicle on duty at Kahror Pakka Chowk.
As per the preliminary report, the accident occurred due to the bursting of the tires of the oil tanker. People in the huts refused to take any legal action; however, the police registered a case on the death of seven people. The case was registered under the provisions of speeding and indifference on the part of the driver.
Meanwhile, the Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious human lives in the accident. He sought a report on the incident and ordered legal action against the driver.
