The Punjab government has announced the distribution of electric bikes to 15,000 teachers across the province in a groundbreaking initiative to support educators amidst rising fuel costs, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Monday.

Spearheaded by Provincial Education Minister Sikandar Hayat, who personally tested the eco-friendly transportation, the project will roll out in three phases. The first phase will see 5,000 teachers receiving electric bikes, with an additional 10,000 set to benefit in subsequent phases.

This move comes as a response to the financial strain faced by teachers due to the high cost of petrol, which has significantly impacted their commute to schools. By switching to electric bikes, teachers are expected to save substantially on travel expenses. Minister Hayat has expressed confidence that this initiative will be "100% beneficial" for teachers, emphasizing the dual benefits of cost savings and environmental sustainability.
