Russian language teaching centre has been established in Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Monday.
According to the details, the Russian Ambassador to Pakistan, Danila Ganich inaugurated the teaching centre in Allama Iqbal Open University which will provide a three-month ‘Russian Language’ course.
During the inauguration ceremony, Danila Ganich talked about the mutual relations between Russia and Pakistan and expressed hope for a further better relationship through an open education centre.
“The centre will prove to be a milestone in further strengthening Pakistan-Russia relations”, he said.
The vice chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mehmood hoped that the educational cooperation between the universities of two countries will bring people closer to each otehr.
“The strong relations have been established between Russia and Pakistan for 75 years and will bring the people closer to each other”, he added.
As many as 1100 online student applications were received to learn the Russian language and 300 students have attended the online class in the first phase whereas the students will be given lectures within the campus premises for two months in the second phase.
Earlier, an online round-table conference was held between Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and Ural State Pedagogical University (USPU) of Russia on ‘Educational Systems of Russia and Pakistan: Possibilities and Opportunities.’
AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Nasir Mahmood presided over the conference.
While addressing the conference, Dr Nasir Mahmood said that AIOU was keen to further expand its relations with all international universities including Russia in the field of education and research. He said hundreds of Pakistani students have expressed their interest in the Russian language program offered by AIOU.
