The Supreme Court disposed of Broadsheet Company's request to open Volume 10 of Panama JIT report on the basis of withdrawal, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A three-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the Broadsheet Company's application regarding access to Volume 10 of the Panama JIT.
During the hearing, Justice Athar Minallah said that the court was asked to open the volume 10 for international arbitration, but the arbitration process has been completed and this request is now invalid.
Broadsheet Company's lawyer Latif Khosa argued that what is there in the Panama JIT Volume 10 which makes it necessary to keep it secret? Under Article 19-A, people have the right to see how the country has been looted.
Justice Minallah inquired if the five-member bench of the Supreme Court had given any observations about Volume 10 in the Panama judgment. “We will not go to this side because the elected prime minister of the country was removed in the Panama case, you wanted Volume 10 to proceed in the arbitration court, the matter has been settled there and now your application has become ineffective,” he remarked.
The Additional Attorney General said that Broadsheet has been paid $28 million by the NAB.
Lawyer Latif Khosa said that the Pakistani nation did not get their 80% from the properties of the Sharif family.
Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that on this matter you could bring an application under 184-3, but you should not talk about the public interest by placing it on Mr. Stuart's shoulder.
Addressing lawyer Latif Khosa, Justice Minallah said, "Do you want the Panama verdict to be reconsidered?"
Lawyer Latif Khosa said, "No, I don't want to go into the Panama judgment."
Justice Minallah told Khosa that instead of talking about politics, be limited to legal points, you have come here to represent the Broadsheet Company and not the people of Pakistan, so it would be better if you did not speak on behalf of the people of Pakistan, what about the Panama case.
The judge asked if the Supreme Court also mentioned the Panama JIT Volume 10 in its judgment or do you want to say that the five-member Panama Bench of the Supreme Court favored someone?
Lawyer Latif Khosa said that he just wants that the facts should come before the public.
CJP Bandial said “The English word is "Relax", Khosa Sahib. The discussion which is going on in the court is not related to the case.”
During the hearing, the Chief Justice praised the caretaker government and said that a statistician in India went abroad after retirement and continued teaching and got the Nobel Prize at the age of 102. The best minds in Pakistan are currently in the government.
Lawyer Latif Khosa said, “The best minds are present in the Supreme Court, whose responsibility is to run it according to the constitution, I love nothing more than the country.”
Chief Justice Bandial remarked everyone loves the country.
Later, the court disposed of the application on the basis of withdrawal.
