Dense fog disrupts air, road traffic

Motorways were closed and flight schedule affected at Lahore Airport as thick fog gripped several parts of Punjab on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the motorways police, Motorway (M-2) was closed due to heavy fog.

Lahore-Multan Motorway was closed from Faizpur to Darkhana, and, Lahore-Sialkot Motorway (M-11) was also closed due to dense fog.

Motorway (M-4) was closed from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakeem, and, Motorway (M-5) also closed from Sher Shah to Ghotki due to thick fog.

The motorways police spokesperson said that the motorways were closed for the safety of the public and to ensure safe travel.

He advised the motorists to use front and rear fog lights on vehicles. He also advised them to avoid speeding and keep a proper distance from other vehicles on road.

“The motorists can contact helpline 130 for information and assistance. Information can also be obtained from Humsafar App of the motorways police,” he added.

On the other hand, the schedule of domestic and international flights was reset at Lahore Airport due to dense fog.

A Qatar Airways flight QR620 from Doha will reach Lahore with a delay of 13 hours and 15 minutes.

An Etihad Airways flight EY241 from Abu Dhabi was delayed for nine hours.

Another Qatar Airways flight QR628 from Doha was instructed to arrive in Lahore with a delay of three hours.

A Doha-bound Qatar Airways flight QR621 was rescheduled to fly from Lahore with a delay of 12 hours and 50 minutes.

An Abu Dhabi-bound Etihad Airways flight EY242 was also rescheduled to fly from Lahore with a delay of eight hours and 50 minutes.

On the other hand, Narowal, Wazirabad, Kharian, Arifwala, Jhelum, and Samundri were among the areas that came under the influence of dense fog.

Not only did the dense fog cause the intensity of cold to increase in these areas, but it also caused the motorists to face a great deal of inconvenience due to low visibility.

The motorists were advised by the traffic police of these areas to be careful while on road, for the visibility was reduced to a very low level due to fog.

The motorists were also advised to use fog lights on vehicles and avoid unnecessary travel.
