LHC allows Christmas relief for markets

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has allowed markets to remain open till 12:00 midnight to facilitate Christians preparing to celebrate Christmas, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.


Conducting the hearing regarding smog case on Friday, the court directed the environment department to review pending NOCs for Central Business District (CBD) minor projects.


The court also directed environment department to review NOCs for CBD water treatment plant and infrastructure.


Justice Shahid Karim heard the case related to smog remediation.


Deputy Attorney General Asad Ali Bajwa appeared on behalf of the federal government.


Environmental Commission member Syed Kamal Haider, Henna Hafeezullah Ishaq and others appeared in the court.


Rice Industries Unit has been sealed without notice, counsel petitioner told the court. Justice Shahid Karim remarked that the court has not yet ordered the sealing of rice units. The court directed the Environment Commission to review the matter.


Advocate CBD informed the court that water treatment plant and infrastructure work has been stopped. “I did not stop,” Justice Shahid Karim remarked.
