Establishment completely neutral in Senate polls, claims Gillani

Former prime minister and Pakistan Democratic Movement PDM-backed candidate for Senate Islamabad seat Yousuf Raza Gilani said that the establishment is completely neutral and he is confident about his win in Senate polls 2021, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.  

PPP leader Yousuf Raza Gilani and PDM President and JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman met in Islamabad on Monday.

Talking to media operons after the meeting, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that Yousuf Raza Gilani's contesting the elections had caused a stir in the government ranks.

“Yousuf Raza Gilani is the joint candidate of PDM and he will be our Chairman Senate as well,” Fazl-ur-Rehman said.

JUIF supremo said Pakistan is suffering from economic decline and electricity prices are rising at a time when gas, flour, ghee, sugar prices are becoming more and more expensive.

Yousaf Raza Gillani said parliamentarians should be respected and he will go to all dignitaries and all people should support him in Senate polls.

“When he contested the election of Prime Minister I got 264 votes, Yousuf Raza Gilani based on my relationship Votes were received,” Gillani said.

PPP leader Yousuf Raza Gillani denied having any contact with PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen and said he has not met Tareen.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday has approved nomination papers of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and joint candidate of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) for Senate elections, Yousaf Raza Gillani.

Earlier, announcing the reserved verdict, the returning officer has rejected the objections raised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fareed Rehman and allowed the former Prime Minister (PM) to contest the elections.

It is to be mentioned here that on February 16, 2021, PTI had challenged Gillani’s nomination papers and accused him of concealing the facts.

Yousaf Raza Gillani had not mentioned his sentence in contempt of court case in his nomination papers, PTI leader claimed.

PPP leader has paced up his lobbying to seek required support to win the Islamabad Senate seat.
