The Peshawar police have flatly refused a request from their counterparts in Punjab for arrested PTI leader Mian Aslam Iqbal, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
A team of Punjab police from Attock was in Peshawar to arrest Aslam Iqbal in connection with May 9 vandalism cases but the KP police insisted that the PTI leader was not facing any criminal case at the moment.
Sources said the Peshawar police clarified to Punjab police that PTI leader was not facing any criminal case in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and moreover the Peshawar High Court has granted Aslam Iqbal transit bail.
The Peshawar police, therefore, were unable to help their counterparts from Punjab in nabbing PTI nominee for Punjab chief minister slot Aslam Iqbal.
It is pertinent to mention that a team of Punjab police arrived in Peshawar to arrest Aslam Iqbal who was declared an absconder in a May 9 case on February 15.
The PTI leader was reportedly hiding at the KP speaker’s house in Peshawar.
On Wednesday, Aslam Iqbal got transit bail from the Peshawar High Court (PHC). The court had granted him transit bail and directed him to appear before the Lahore High Court within two weeks.
Aslam Iqbal files contempt against police
PTI leader and nominee for Punjab Chief Minister slot Mian Aslam Iqbal has filed a contempt of court petition against police for flouting the orders of Peshawar High Court, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
PTI leader’s counsel pleaded that police was trying to arrest Aslam Iqbal despite the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) orders which barred police from arresting the PTI leader in any case.
The petition was filed by Shah Faisal Atmankhel advocate. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police was made party in the petition.
