The Supreme Court has delivered a short judgement about the proceedings against judges, stating that initiating disciplinary action against a judge does not cease with their resignation.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the decision comes amidst ongoing debates surrounding judicial accountability.
In the short judgement, the court clarified that actions initiated by the Judicial Council before a judge's retirement will continue irrespective of their resignation.
A 5-member larger bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan delivered the verdict.
The Supreme Court issued a decision by a majority of four to one and accepted the federal government's appeal conditionally.
Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi disagreed with the majority decision. He disagreed with the decision to the extent that the federal government's appeal was time-bart.
The SC also ruled that it is the discretion of the Judicial Council to act or not on pending complaints against retired judges. The court also said that the detailed reasons for the decision would be issued later.
After the court decision, permission was given to take action against Justice Retired Syed Mazahir Naqvi.
