The leadership of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have started consultation for the nomination of Chairman Senate, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
Among the favorite contenders, Yusuf Raza Gilani is the strongest candidate for the new Senate Chairman.
Yusuf Raza Gilani was elected as a senator from Islamabad, his tenure is still 3 years, he will leave the seat of the National Assembly if he becomes the chairman of the Senate. In the absence of Yusuf Raza Gilani, his son will contest in the by-election.
Yusuf Raza Gilani has won from NA- 148 Multan by securing 67326 votes while independent candidate Taimur Altaf Malik got 67033 votes.
Earlier, matters were settled between the PML-N and PPP for government formation in the federation and the provinces.
According to the decision, the Chairman Senate will be from PPP and the Deputy Chairman will be from PML-N while the Speaker of the National Assembly will be from PML-N and the Deputy Speaker will be from PPP.
Likewise, the Chief Minister of Balochistan will be from the Pakistan People’s Party while the PML-N and the PPP will form the government together.
