Former finance minister and senior PML-N leader Ishaq Dar has rejected the PTI government’s growth rate claiming that the government has fudged with the figures in order to show a rosy picture of the economy while in truth the economy is dwindling, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
In his latest twitter video upload, Ishaq Dar exposed the falsehood of the government claim regarding growth rate. He said the government had changed the base year in a bid to show higher GDP rate. He said the government altered the base year of 2005-06 with 2015-16.
He said after this fudging, in the second year of the PTI government the country saw a negative growth i.e. -0.39. It happened for the first time after 1952 that Pakistan registered the negative GDP, he deplored. He said after altering the base year, the growth rate had further declined to -1%. But the government kept the people in dark, he added.
Senator Dar further said that in its third year of reign, where the PTI government after fudging with the base year could show 0.2% improvement in the GDP, the country’s growth rate in the PML-N government’s last year in power i.e. 2018 was raised by 0.6% and the total GDP became 6.1%.
The former finance minister prodded the government whether it had controlled inflation. Now the inflation rate has doubled as the last month the inflation index was recorded 12%, he added.
While slamming the government over its growth claims, Dar questioned how many job opportunities the government had created or had it eliminated poverty, or had it strengthened the Pakistan currency?
He lamented that the government was destroying Pakistan’s economy and asked it to stop making people fool.
