The government has launched a “crackdown” on anti-judiciary campaigners who have unleashed a false propaganda on social media platforms, warning that “the culture of lies and intolerance is spiteful”, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Quoting sources, the TV channel reported that the authorities have officially decided to include the names of individuals leading anti-judiciary campaigns on social media in the Exit Control List (ECL) and the Stop List.
As per officials, hundreds of social media accounts have been identified in this regard and the authorities have decided to block those accounts found involved in the anti-judiciary campaigns with the help of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The sources further said that an officer of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is also added to the joint investigation team (JIT), while intelligence agencies have checked these social media accounts which are involved in the campaign.
The sources further divulged that the social media account holders’ names, being operated from foreign countries, will also be added to the EC and the Stop List.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Monday, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting has warned against running such a “dirty and muddy” campaign against the judiciary.
The minister declared that action will taken against those involved in such campaign. “The culture of lies and intolerance is always damaging,” he added.
Solangi said that although people had the right to either praise or criticize courts’ decisions, still there was no room for the malicious campaign that was launched against judiciary on social media recently.
Addressing the presser along with PTA and FIA officials, the minister warned people against indulging in hate campaign against judges. He added that the culprits were identified after monitoring several social media accounts, and now they would face legal action.
Solangi deplored that the people not only from within the country but also those sitting abroad posted derogatory and demeaning comments against the judges.
He went on to say that the culture of hate and intolerance was detrimental for the society.
The minister further said it was heartening that uncertainty surrounding the general elections was now completely over, and the nation would go to polls on February 8.
He said it was the responsibility of the caretaker government to provide support to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and it will fulfill its responsibility.
He urged the national media to show responsibility while reporting on the elections, “The responsibility of the media in this regard is huge,” Solangi commented.
He said it was obligatory on political parties to fulfill the promises they made to the electorate prior to coming to power.
The minister opined that increasing awareness in people about national issues was the need of the hour.
He also stressed the need for the promotion of democratic attitudes within political parties.
