India skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to bowl first against England in the first of the five T20 internationals in Kolkata on Wednesday.
Fast bowler Mohammed Shami missed out in the team after he returned to the squad from a heel injury that kept him away from competitive cricket for over a year.
England, led by Jos Buttler, start fresh under new white-ball coach Brendon McCullum, who was previously in charge only of the Test side.
The tourists had announced their team on the eve of the first match and come in with three fast bowlers in Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson.
Phil Salt comes in as a wicketkeeper and will open the innings after Buttler decided to play only as batsman.
