The deployment of security agencies in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) has been extended for an additional year, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to a notification issued on Friday, the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces (CAI) troops in Gilgit Baltistan (GB) has been extended till June 30, 2024.
The decision has been with the approval of the federal cabinet, reflecting the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
The Army would be deployed for security including that of CPEC projects, and the Karakoram Highway.
The deployment encompasses the Pakistan Army, Rangers, GB Scouts, and Frontier Corps (FC), all of which play crucial roles in safeguarding the internal security of GB.
The extension of their deployment aims to ensure continued stability and protection for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The federal government extended the deployment of frontier constabulary until June 30, 2024, while the tenure of GB scouts has been extended up to August 23, 2024.
The notification says that “The deployment of Punjab Rangers has also been extended for a year while Rangers have been deployed till June 30 and October.
The decision to extend the deployment came after the GB government formally requested an extension, highlighting the ongoing need for security measures to maintain law and order.
The authorities recognize the importance of a strong security presence in GB, given the region’s strategic location and the potential security challenges it may face.
