Already crushed under the hefty electricity bills, consumers braced themselves for bearing additional burden of 30 billion rupees as an application has landed at the Nepra for increasing the tariff by Rs2.11 per unit, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday, quoting sources.

Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) filed the plea with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on account of fuel adjustment for the month of June, the sources said, adding the Nepra will make a decision after a public hearing of the application.

If allowed, the raise in tariff will put an additional burden of 30 billion rupees including sales tax on the consumers, the sources said.

Adjustment in June tariff will not be applicable to K-Electric consumers, the sources said and added K-Electric has separately filed an application in Nepra for fuel adjustment for the month of June, seeking an increase of Rs2.92 per unit.

The Nepra will take up K-Electric’s plea on July 30.
