Canadian High Commissioner Leslie Scanlon Friday arrived at the Ministry of the Interior for a meeting with Federal Minister of Interior and Anti-Narcotics Mohsin Naqvi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The discussions centred on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing key issues such as border security, immigration, illegal human trafficking, and drug trafficking.
Minister Naqvi emphasized Pakistan's ongoing efforts to secure its borders and curb illegal movements and human trafficking.
"In this regard, all steps are being taken to increase the efficiency of the relevant institutions," Naqvi stated. He also highlighted innovations and improvements in the immigration system, including the implementation of an electronic travel authorization system that aims to issue visas within 24 hours.
Naqvi proposed that Pakistan could supply skilled manpower to Canada in various fields. "Migration of skilled manpower to Canada will reduce cases of illegal human trafficking," he explained.
The Interior Minister also reiterated Pakistan's commitment to protecting the rights of all minorities under the Constitution. "The protection of the rights of minorities is the responsibility of the Government of Pakistan," he said, emphasizing the nation's inclusive policies.
Regarding the Afghan refugee crisis, Naqvi assured that Pakistan is providing all possible facilities for the migration of Afghan refugees to Canada.
High Commissioner Scanlon expressed gratitude for the cooperation extended by Pakistan in various fields. The meeting was attended by high officials from the Canadian High Commission, Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Ali Agha, and other senior officials.
