The caretaker government has formed Punjab Journalists Protection Coordination Committee which will investigate and address the issues faced by journalists, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
As per the official sources, the Punjab Home Department has also issued a notification in this regard with the efforts of Provincial Information Minister Amir Mir.
The approval of the committee was given by the Punjab cabinet’s Standing Committee on Law and Order.
“The Punjab deputy inspector general (legal) has been appointed as the convener of the committee,” Amir Mir said.
“The committee included the president of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), the president of Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) and the president of Lahore Press Club,” he added.
“The committee will ensure the protection of journalists in the province. It will also act as a liaison between the district police officers and journalists,” he stated.
“The committee will recommend action on any abuse of journalists. It will review the incidents of violence against journalists and take appropriate measures,” he averred.
