Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC), Maulana Tahir Ashrafi, has refuted allegations made by former first lady Bushra Bibi regarding Saudi Arabia's role in the removal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan's government in 2022.
Speaking on Friday, Tahir Ashrafi called Bushra Bibi's claims baseless and highlighted the respect given to the Pakistani delegation during Imran Khan's visit to Saudi Arabia, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Tahir Ashrafi said, “The PTI founder [Imran Khan] was given more than he asked for during his Saudi visit. I was part of this visit, and General Qamar Javed Bajwa was also present in Madina.”
The PUC chairman questioned, "What Shariah law did Imran Khan implement in Pakistan that could threaten Saudi Arabia?"
He claimed the propaganda against Saudi Arabia is due to its growing investment in Pakistan. He accused detractors of spreading baseless rumours to hinder the partnership between the two nations.
He emphasised that both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia stand united, particularly on the Palestinian issue, and that attempts to defame Saudi Arabia serve the interests of hostile forces.
Pertinent to mention here that yesterday, in a video message shared on PTI’s official X handle, Bushra Bibi alleged that Saudi Arabia had a role in the removal of the PTI government.
She claimed that during Imran Khan’s visit to Madina, Saudi officials expressed dissatisfaction, allegedly asking General Qamar Javed Bajwa why Imran had accompanied him.
She further alleged that Saudi officials labelled Imran Khan as a "Jewish agent" and launched a campaign against him.
