The Government of Punjab on Friday announced imposition of Section 144 across Punjab for three days apparently to tackle the protest demonstration announced by the PTI, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
After imposition of Section 144 for three days – November 23 (Saturday) till November 25 (Monday), all public gatherings including protest rallies, sit-ins and political meetings were banned.
Earlier, Cabinet Committee on Law and Order in its 18th meeting recommended to impose Section 144 across Punjab for maintaining law and order situation.
Crackdown intensified
The police in Lahore have intensified the crackdown against active PTI workers and have declared the Shahdara exit and entry route as sensitive, sources said.
Sources in the police said there was strong capability to seal Shahdara with containers in view of the PTI workers’ possible travel to Islamabad to take part in the protest.
Special police squads will also de deployed at exit and entry routes, the sources said and added, the police have completed the coordination in Islamabad and Punjab districts in this regard.
