The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam named Senator Kamran Murtaza as a member of a parliamentary committee for the appointment of new chief justice of Pakistan (CJP).
The Senate Secretariat sought names from the JUI, PTI, PML-N and PPP.
The special parliamentary committee for the appointment of chief justice is being formed and its meeting is expected tomorrow.
The names of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Yahya Afridi are being considered for the post of the country’s top judge.
The committee will finalise the name of CJP by a two-thirds majority.
