PM Shehbaz reaches UK, set to address UN General Assembly on Sept 27

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in the United Kingdom, where he was received at Luton Airport by Pakistani High Commissioner Dr Faisal, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.


According to the channel, the prime minister is scheduled to leave for the United States on September 23 to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.


In a message posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account before his departure for New York, Shehbaz Sharif expressed his commitment to presenting Pakistan’s perspective on key global issues. He stated that his discussions with world leaders during the assembly would focus on promoting peace, sustainable development, and addressing the challenges posed by climate change.


Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also emphasised that Pakistan’s efforts to build and strengthen international partnerships would be a key theme during his engagements in the US. He is expected to reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and highlight the importance of the UN in maintaining global peace and security during his address at the UNGA on September 27.


Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zehra Baloch said that during his visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The session will be held from September 23 to September 27, 2024.


He will address the United Assembly General Assembly on September 27. Mumtaz Zehra Baloch said that during his address the Prime Minister will assure full support and assistance of Pakistan on multi-faced issues.


The Prime Minister will also offer Pakistan’s assistance on various welfare, peace, and security projects running under the patronage of the United Nations. Mumtaz Zehra Baloch further said that during his address the Prime Minister will highlight pending issues of the UN, including the Palestine and Kashmir dispute.


He will announce to take effective measures to address injustice being done in global economic ties.The Prime Minister will highlight the importance of reforms in the global economic structure.
The Prime Minister will participate in various meetings that will be held under the auspices of UNGA. These meetings also include “Danger due to an increase in sea level.”


The Prime Minister will also hold meetings with global leaders and will focus on expanding and strengthening relations with their countries.
