The Punjab Wildlife Department has recovered a rare breed of eagle from Taunsa during a crackdown against illegal business trade and smuggling of rare wildlife birds and animals, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to officials, the value of the recovered rare breed eagle is more than Rs 100 million in the international market.
The wildlife department, along with the police, took action on a tip-off in Taunsa, recovered the eagle, and arrested the accused.
However, the rare eagle was found physically healthy and is worth more than $36,000.
The accused was involved in the business of smuggling of rare birds abroad.
The recovered eagle will be re-released with a tracker.
Birds play an important role in maintaining ecological balance.
Under the policy of the Chief Minister Punjab for the protection of forests and wildlife, continuous operations are going on across the province.
So far, many rare wild animals and birds have been recovered and transferred to zoos.
