Despite an assurance given by CTO Lahore Traffic Police Ammara Athar, in an advisory, that motorists would be provided alternate routes during the visit of Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi to the provincial capital today, people found themselves stranded in rain as the closure of major roads for traffic resulted in traffic jams, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
The situation was worse on The Mall, Jail Road and the Canal Road where the City Traffic Police’s flawed strategy was completely exposed.
Earlier, in view of Iran’s president’s visit to Lahore, the city’s Traffic Police had advised residents of the city to avoid commuting unnecessarily, especially on The Mall, Jail Road, Canal Road, Main Boulevard, the areas surrounding the Greater Iqbal Park, Lorry Adda, and the Lower Mall.
CTO Traffic Police Ammara Athar had said that despite the fact that these roads will be declared off-limits for traffic during the VVIP movements, motorists will be provided alternate routes.
She had further said that the Ring Road will also remain closed for traffic till 3:00 in the afternoon.
