Former Punjab minister Gul Hameed Khan Rokhri passed away on Sunday. He was 86.
Rokhri was admitted to a private hospital in Lahore for the last several days, but could not survive. He was chairman of Rokhri group.
Gul Hameed Khan Rokhri was born on January 1, 1936 at Mianwali. He was a gold medalist in MSc from American National College, Lahore and was also a law graduate. A practising lawyer, who served as Vice Chairman District Council Mianwali during 1965-69 and as Chairman District Council Mianwali during 1983-87.
He remained Member West Pakistan Assembly during 1965-69; and Member Punjab Assembly during 1985-88 and 1988-90. Although he returned again to Punjab Assembly in 1990 but vacated his seat and served as Member National Assembly during 1990-93.
He also functioned as Advisor to Chief Minister during 1986-88 and as Minister for Food, Punjab during 1989-90. He has once again returned to the Punjab Assembly winning the General Elections 2002 from two constituencies (PP-44 and PP-45).
