Home Department Punjab Tuesday decided to impose ban on 18 dancers who perform obscene and vulgar acts in stage plays across Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A crackdown against the theatre owners and actors/dancers promoting vulgarity and obscenity in the name of art and culture was launched after the Information and Culture Minister Amir Mir ordered to impose ban on them.
In the first phase, the Home Department issued show-cause notices to 18 stage dancers on the recommendation of the Punjab Arts Council (PAC) and gave them a week to justify their acts. In the second phase, the dancers were banned across the province by the Home Department as they were spreading obscenity and nudity in the name of stage plays.
On the instructions of Amir Mir, Punjab Arts Council wrote a letter to the Home Department to take action against Shama, Tamashil, Mehfil, Naz, Sitara and Al-Falah Theaters of Lahore and Friends and Marian Theaters of Sahiwal as their owners are the main culprits for promoting pornographic theatres.
It was also stated that undercover teams of Punjab Arts Council are monitoring stage plays in all theaters and severe action will be taken wherever unethical performances are found.
