The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, demanding an amendment of the code of conduct for the upcoming general elections, reported 24NewsHd TV channel Friday.

The letter, written by PPP Secretary General Taj Haider, states that there is no legal basis for barring the mayor, chairman and moderator from contesting the general seat of the provincial and national assemblies.

The letter argues that the nomination forms are being submitted for the elections and that there is already a ban on the use of government resources in the campaign.

The letter also urges the Election Commission to dismiss the village councils appointed in Punjab province immediately.

The letter says that section 18 of the code of conduct should be amended to remove the name of the mayor and chairman along with the moderator who cannot participate in the election campaign.
