The third monsoon spell lashed Lahore and other Punjab cities on Saturday with authorities sounding alert, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Heavy rain pummeled the provincial capital with rainwater accumulated on almost all roads turning the city into a deluge.
Lahore Deputy Commission Umar Sher Chattha has put all the LWMC, WASA and MCL staff on alert, directing them to drain the water from low-lying areas of the city as quickly as possible.
The situation was not different in other Punjab cities where heavy downpours have again caused the water level to rise in streams and nullahs especially in Koh-e-Sulaiman. Kaha Sultan, Chhachhar and Kala Bagga Khosra passes were overwhelmed by the rainwater.
Many Rajanpura areas were again flooded with the soaring rainwater with the district administration launching emergency efforts to rescue people from the affected areas.
A 50-foot breach occurred in Abdal Shakh canal in Shikarpur, flooding dozens of villages, affecting paddy crops on thousands of acres.
The floodwater also threatened the Tangwani city after a 30-foot breach occurred in Heer Deen canal.
Earlier, the Met Office has forecast more rain with wind and thundershower in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the next 12 hours.
Scattered heavy falls were likely in south Punjab, lower Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and eastern Balochistan.
Temperature of some major cities recorded Saturday morning were as follow:
Islamabad 26 degree centigrade, Murree 16, Lahore 27, Karachi 29, Peshawar and Gilgit 28, while 25 in Quetta and Muzaffarabad.
Six die in different rain-related incidents in Punjab
Six people were killed in different rain-related incidents in Punjab on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A youth drowned while swimming in a canal near Adhorahe village of Gujranwala.
Rescue teams managed to fish out the body of 21-year-old Umair, who was the resident of a private housing society.
In yet another incident, three minors, who were first cousins, were killed when they fell into a gutter while taking bath in rainwater accumulated on a road in Domala, a suburban village of Narowal.
The children were reportedly of six, eight and 11-years-old.
Moving scenes were witnessed in the village following the deaths as everybody was in tears.
Rescue 1122 officials shifted the bodies to District Headquarter Hospital.
Two people were killed while one was injured when roof of a house caved in at Lahore’s Bedian Road.
Rescue sources told 24News that those killed were identified as 40-year-old Dilawar and 12-year-old Usman.
They said that another house inmate namely 10-year-old Nimra, who was injured in the incident, was shifted to hospital where she was being provided treatment.
