An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Tuesday handed down a prison term besides slapping fine on two accused for threatening owner of a federal educational institution in the federal capital with dire consequences in the event of non-payment of Rs300 million, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

ATC judge Tahir Abbas Sipra sentenced Bakht Shireen and Jan Alam to 16 years in jail each besides ordering each of them to pay Rs100,000 in fine.

The judge said both convicts would have to spend one more year in jail in case they failed to pay the fine.

Both these persons, posing themselves as Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants, had written threatening letters to the owner and demanded ransom.

They had even threatened to blow up the institution in the even of non-payment of ransom.

A case had been registered against Shireen and Alam at a CTD police station.
