Pakistan Bar Council has urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to appoint the senior-most judge as Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a letter to CJP Justice Faiz Essa, Pakistan Bar Council’s 6 members appealed to him to follow the seniority rule in judges’ appointments.
Pakistan Bar Council reminded the CJP that the principle of seniority was compromised during the elevation of High Court judges to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Pakistan Bar Council told the CJP that in the Al-Jihad Trust case, the principle of seniority of judges was fixed. If the senior-most judge is not considered eligible for the post of Chief Justice, then his position as a judge will be questioned.
Pakistan Bar Council further said that the deviation from the principle of seniority for the most senior judge cannot be violated without concrete evidence.
