A farewell ceremony was held for elephant Kaavan, which is all set to leave Pakistan for Cambodia on November 29 as per court orders, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Friends of Islamabad Zoo, a citizens’ initiative, said in a tweet, “Farewell for Kaavan, Special Guest Minister Climate Change and Special Assistant to Prime Minister Malik Amin Aslam gave a worthwhile farewell to Kaavan and laid his case very brilliantly.”

Islamabad Zoo has been in the news of late, especially involving the Kaavan elephant, which was dubbed the ‘World’s Loneliest Elephant’ by his supporters.
Animal activists of the region came to rescue Kaavan, which lived in isolation for more than 35 years at the Islamabad Zoo.
It lost its partner in 2012 and the zoo was being locked due to poor performance. Martin Bauer, a spokesman for advocacy community Four Paws, says the elephant was examined medically and allowed travel to Cambodia.
On the other hand, Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary in a Facebook post said that in the last five weeks they have met many hurdles and been forced to go to multiple plans to build a shelter for Kaavan. “The initial plan was to have his quarantine shelter attached to his large jungle enclosure, heavy rains and wet ground thwarted that idea, another location was sought but that too was too wet to proceed, so it was down to plan C, adapt one of the current elephant night enclosures to suit Kaavan, stronger perimeter fencing was built, in it are now some scratching posts some shaded areas, an area for feed and positive reinforcement and of course a pool,” Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary said.
