Deputy Commissioner declared fugitive in Sukkur motorway land scandal

Naushahro Feroze Deputy Commissioner Tashfeen Alam has been declared a fugitive in the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway land scandal, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

He had been given Rs3.60 billion for the purchase of land for National Highway Authority (NHA).

Earlier, a joint investigation team (JIT) had been set up after the fraud of Rs2.14 billion in the funds meant for purchasing land for Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway.

The JIT, headed by Muhammad Nawaz Sheikh, had been directed to submit an inquiry report on the embezzlement of highway project funds in Matiari district of Sindh within 10 days.

It had been stated in the first information report (FIR) that Rs2.14 billion were embezzled from the Rs4 billion that had been received from the federal government.

Deputy Commissioner Adnan Rasheed had been arrested in the case, whereas, main accused – Assistant Commissioner Mansoor Abbasi and Aslam Pirzada got pre-arrest bails.

The first meeting of the JIT had been held at the office of Chairman Anti-Corruption Sindh, and it decided to seize the cell phones’ record of the accused.

The meeting had also decided to investigate the accused in police style. The NHA had also set up a two-member committee to probe the scandal.
