Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has suspended five senior doctors including Medical Superintendent of Nishtar Hospital and Vice Chancellor Nishtar Medical University Multan over HIV outbreak, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

During her visit to Nishtar Hospital Multan, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took strict action on the issue of AIDS transmission to 25 patients at hospital’s dialysis unit.

The Chief Minister also cancelled their licences after that the doctors would not be able to do their private practice.

Maryam Nawaz suspended Vice Chancellor Nishtar Medical University Dr. Mehnaz Khakwani, MS Nishtar Hospital Dr. Kazim Khan, Head of Nephrology Ward Dr. Ghulam Abbas, Assistant Professor Dr. Jahangir, Assistant Professor Dr. Poonam, Senior Registrar Dr. Alamgir and Head Nurse Naheed in light of the investigation commission report.

Doctors hold protest against suspensions

Doctors of Nishtar Hospital Multan on Saturday held a protest demonstration against suspension of their five colleagues for negligence.

According to details, Punjab government after receiving reports about spreading of HIV disease in dialysis patients admitted in Dialysis Unit of Nishtar Hospital suspended five senior doctors.

Punjab government further directed to hold impartial inquiry to determine real culprits involved in this heinous crime.

A large number of doctors gathered outside Vice-Chancellor’s office and chanted slogans against the management of Nishtar Hospital and also termed the process of inquiry as one-sided.
